Three levels of cover

These schemes provide THREE levels of cover, with the first two valid in Malta only, and the third scheme providing cover on a worldwide basis except USA and Canada. The schemes offering In-patient and Out-patient cover are:

  • Basic Scheme
  • Hospital Scheme
  • International Scheme
Cost-reducing options

In order to make its schemes more accessible to a wider section of the public, Mapfre Middlesea p.l.c. is also introducing a number of cost-reducing options whereby the applicable premium may be significantly improved when the following variations are selected:

  • Basic Scheme (In-patient cover only)
  • Hospital Scheme (In-patient cover only)

These two variations provide insurance protection for hospitalisation as an in-patient. By opting not to be covered for out-patient treatment and consultations, a person could still have the peace of mind that he/she is covered for expensive in-patient treatment costs.

Further flexibility

Further flexibility is provided by allowing customers to introduce a voluntary excess of 10% or 20% and enjoy a further reduction in their premium.

The Family Health Insurance Scheme is a new insurance product which covers all the health insurance needs of all family members, upon payment of a single premium only.

This new health insurance scheme gives protection cover to all family members in case of any injury or other medical contingencies such as hospitalisation, medical expenses, and surgical expenses. This scheme offers generous out-patient benefits including refund for general practitioners’ fees, consultations with specialists, a dental benefit, maternity benefit, as well as a benefit for funeral expenses.

Mediphone

24-hour telephone medical advice service which allows clients to contact a doctor who can offer guidance in the event of any health-related circumstance. This comprises an extensive selection of services such as sending a doctor, nurse and medication to the Insured's home and putting them in contact with specialists. Second Opinion Service

Most Schemes now include an exclusive Second Medical Opinion Service program. If you are diagnosed with a serious illness and would like to get further confirmation, this program gives you access to a network of acknowledged Top Medical Experts in Europe. We Care

As part of the continuous lookout for additional services that can be offered at no additional cost, arrangements have been made with We Care Company Ltd, whereby persons insured by certain Middlesea Health Insurance Schemes will be eligible for special discounts on the various services provided by We Care.

This company offers amongst other things, Care Workers, Specialised Tutors, Counsellors, nurses, occupational therapists, psychologists, psychotherapists, physiotherapists, speech language pathologists and social workers.

These three new benefits are available to all new and existing clients depending on the level of cover selected. Both Mediphone and Second medical opinion service is provided at no charge on policyholders having a Hospital or International policy. Policyholders on a lower level of cover may however purchase these additional benefits at a nominal premium. We Care benefits shall be available at no charge to all our Health clients.

The family health insurance scheme offers all these exclusive features:

  • Single premium for the entire family including family discounts
  • Premium payment options to choose from; like monthly, quarterly, half year, annually
  • Unemployment benefit – should the policyholder become unemployed and therefore not being able to pay for the family insurance premium, Mapfre Middlesea p.l.c. will pay the annual renewal premium for you as long as such unemployment is as a result of redundancy
  • Transfer of cover – should the policyholder or any member of his family decide to transfer his cover either from or to an individual basis, one can enjoy continuous cover as long as one remains on the same level of cover
  • Personalised cards – a personalised card is issued to all insured indicating their name and the scheme covered
  • New born children can be included in the Family scheme free of charge, until the next date of renewal
  • This scheme includes the exclusive Second Medical Opinion service program. This means that if any member of your family is diagnosed with a serious illness and would like to get further confirmation, this benefit gives you access to a network of acknowledged international medical experts at no extra cost.
  • Although the purpose of the Family scheme is to provide cover for Treatment received in the Maltese islands, however, if the insured or an insured member of your family requires emergency Treatment whilst outside of the Maltese Islands, then the Family scheme will cover the cost for the Treatment received up to the same level as what would have been paid had the same Treatment been received in Malta.

Joining the Mapfre Middlesea Family Health scheme is simple as no medical tests are required as long as the person applying for cover is under 60 years old.
